Get ready to scan everything in your pantry!
Yuka is a mobile app that deciphers product labels and analyzes the health impact of food products and cosmetics. If it has a bar code, you can scan it and see a quick overall rating, along with more detailed information about the ingredients.
We are OBSESSED.
The creators of Yuka state that it is free from the influence of brands and manufacturers. If you're looking to audit your pantry, this is a great tool! It is also extremely helpful to use while shopping. Yuka will scan and analyze labels in the blink of an eye so you can learn at a glance which products are good for you and which ones you should avoid. It also makes swap suggestions.
For example, while scanning our freezer last night with the Yuka app, we discovered that one of our beloved nighttime treats contains a potentially dangerous preservative as well as palm oil, which we generally try to avoid. When we scanned another option in our freezer it turns out it is a better choice. Amazing! If you love a good "this not that" moment, this app is right up your alley. It also saves your history, so you can easily look back and see what you've scanned in the past. Here's what ours looks like:

At Grown Guidance we think of ourselves as curious consumers, and if you're a curious person too we think you'll really enjoy downloading this tool. Just another tool for your health and wellness toolbox.
The app is free, although there is a premium membership you can opt to sign up for if you have certain dietary needs or preferences (think gluten, lactose, etc.). You can easily find it on Google Play (Android) or the App Store (Apple):
If you are interested in how they rate items, you can find more information here.
